Challenging, Fun Day at 2013 Alumni Golf Outing
The course was long, the rough high and the greens surrounded by bunkers, but none of these obstacles deterred the large group of Delta Delta brothers who returned for the 23rd Annual Alumni Golf Outing. For the first time in a long time, the 84 returning golfers teed off on Purdue’s Pete Dye designed course that was built to accommodate NCAA championships.
Several of the teams played like they were NCAA champions posting outstanding scores. The foursome of Alex Kutanovski ‘03, Mike Talbot ’06, Chris Kutanovski ‘07 and Jake Meyerrose ’09, returned to defend their 2012 crown and took top honors again this year with an impressive score of 13 under par.
The Class of ’86 foursome of Jeff McKean, Bob Burlas, Jim Hawkins and Rob Barkett took second place. Third place, which was determined by a putt off in the Great Hall, went to Tom Ford, Scott McConnell, Larry Nicolet, Jim Smith and Kirk Raymond from the Class of ’71.
Class of ’68 Leads the Charge
As part of their year-long celebration of their class’s 45th reunion, the Class of 68 returned en masse to 202 with 16 of their pledge brothers making the trip. Bob Kaley ’68 remarked, “As you can imagine, a great time was had by all. We had 16 out of 26 or so PBs there, and many tales were told.” Other classes with strong participation were the Classes of ’71, ’77 and ’98.
Our Most Distinguished Alumnus honor went to the very distinguished and tremendous golfer, Larry Brown Robbins ‘68. Jim Dishong ’81, who resides in San Diego, was recognized for being the brother who traveled the farthest to join us.
Thanks to Those Who Made It Happen
First year golf outing organizers, Brian Griffith ‘95 and Guenter Haines ’95, did a great job of organizing this year’s event and making sure everything came together for a well run outing. A special thanks to Butch Brose, Todd Kaminski, Craig Johnson and Nate Lozanoski ’13 for getting the Chapter House ready for our return and helping out with the dinner and golf registration.
2014 Goal …. 100 Brothers
Brian and Guenter want to increase the number of brothers who return for the outing next year to 100. So start making plans now to return for a great day of golf and brotherhood.
