Delta Delta – Purdue Host BLTW 2013
2057 Sigma Chi brothers descended on Purdue University on August 1 – 4 for the best attended Balfour Leadership Training Workshop (BLTW) ever. As the largest leadership conference in the Greek world, BLTW continues to provide opportunities for undergraduate and alumni brothers to meet and learn how to more effectively lead their chapter operations.
Delta Delta Welcomes Sigs To Purdue
The Delta Delta House Corporation sponsored the “Welcome to BLTW” event held as Sigs from throughout the U.S. and Canada arrived in West Lafayette. Purdue All American and former NFL quarterback Mark Herrmann ’81 addressed the large audience and reflected on the role Sigma Chi had played in his life and undergraduate days. Also in attendance to greet the many visitors were Bernie Sergesketter ’58, Jeff Early ’77, Jim Vruggink ’71, Jim MacDonald ’80, Bart Burrell ’81, Ryan Steele ’11 and Phil Steele ’77.
Chapter House Hosts Sig Guests
Several smaller events were held at the Chapter House including preparing five candidates for the Initiation ceremony of which two were Delta Delta brothers. Greg Harbaugh ’79, President of the Sigma Chi Foundation, held the Foundation’s Distinguished Visitor lunch and Bell Chapter dinner for over 120 undergrads and alumni brothers at the house. This year two Delta Delta brothers were honored as Distinguished Visitors, Bernie Sergesketter ’58 and Jeff Early ’77. Delta Delta is also one of the 61 Sig chapters designated as a Bell Chapter for supporting the Foundation’s scholarship programs.
Many of the guests asked for tours of the chapter house which were led by Butch Brose, Jay Andrew, Nate Lozanoski , Bart Burrell and Phil Steele. The work that Butch and Nate Lozanoski ’13 completed over the summer had the chapter house looking outstanding.
Brothers Share Delta Delta Memories
After a long day of meetings and events several Delta Delta brothers gathered to reminisce at Harry’s. This brought back special memories of our shared days at Purdue. As the old stories were told, Consul Greg Burns ’14 learned that alumni brothers, when they too were young men, had had a great deal of fun during their days at 202 Littleton Street.
Purdue has hosted BLTW for the past two summers and did an admirable job hosting the two largest conferences to date. At this point the location for BLTW 2014 has not been determined. Wherever it is, we’re sure it will continue to help all who attend to be better leaders and brothers.
