Neon, Lightning Light Up 25th Annual Golf Outing
Even the untimely lightning and rain couldn’t deter the neon garbed Class of ’77 brothers and the other 60 Delta Delta alumni who took part in the 25th Annual Delta Delta Alumni Golf Outing. Held on June 13th at Purdue’s Kampen Golf Course, the Sig outing is the longest running alumni golf event by a Purdue fraternity. Started in 1990 it continues to bring brothers of all ages back for a fun day of golf and brotherhood.
Class of ’68 Leads the Way (As Usual)
The Class of ’68 once again took top honors for the most brothers in attendance with 12 PB’s returning. The Class of ’77 with nine and the Class of ’71 with eight brothers also made strong showings.
Putt-Off Determines Winner
At the end of the rain shortened golf round there were three teams tied for first at 3 under par. The Classes of ’95, ’71 and ‘03 had to compete in a putt-off in the Great Hall to see who the first place team would be. Rick Taylor ’95 knocked his putt within inches of the cup to claim top honors for his Class of ’95 teammates, Craig Johnson and Eric Morgan.
Class of ’74 Captures 1st Seniors Title
A first ever “seniors” division winner was also awarded to the Class of ’74 team of Gary Edwards, Tim Maloney, Curt Uminger, John Yates and Rob Baumann '73.
Chapter Sweetheart Heading for Grand Chapter
Also in attendance this year was Delta Delta’s Chapter Sweetheart Cecilia Daizovi. Cecilia is one of the three finalists for Sigma Chi’s International Sweetheart to be selected at Grand Chapter at the end of June.
Cecilia, along with Andrew Weiland ’15, a member of the Purdue golf team, was on the course raising funds to help cover Grand Chapter expenses.
Thanks to So Many
As always we want to thank Brian Griffiths ’95 and Guenter Haines ’95 for putting on this event, and Butch Brose and Todd Kaminski for getting the chapter house ready for everyone’s return. In addition special thanks to all our hole sponsors. Their support is very important to the event’s success.
We look forward to continuing this great tradition and the return of even more brothers in 2016.
