Cooper '68 Honored As Significant Sig

John L. Cooper '68

John L. Cooper '68 was recently named a Significant Sig for his contributions and accomplishments in the field of intellectual property, antitrust and commercial law.

Recognized as National Authority

John is the senior member and founder of Farella Braun & Martel LLP’s Intellectual Property Litigation Group in San Francisco where he regularly represents technology companies in complex patent action and in cases addressing the confluence of intellectual property and antitrust issues. Today John is recognized nationally as an authority in his field of practice and a leader in the patent bar.

John commented, "The thing that is so meaningful about this award is that it is recognition by my pledge brothers and by the other men of Sigma Chi, all of whom are close friends and men whom I respect great deal."

Following his graduation from Purdue with a degree in Chemical Engineering, John received an MBA from the University of Chicago and his JD from the University of Colorado.

Long List of Accomplishments

John has served as Regent and is a long standing Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers. He has been selected as one of the Top 30 Intellectual Property Lawyers in California by the Daily Journal, and is identified by Chambers USA as one of the leading intellectual property lawyers in California. He was selected for inclusion as a Fellow in the Academy of Court Appointed Masters as well as in The Best Lawyers in America for twenty years in the areas of Commercial, Antitrust, Intellectual Property and Patent Litigation.

John was co-editor and co-author of "Anatomy of a Patent Case" published by the Federal Judicial Center to assist federal judges in patent cases. He has addressed the American Bar Association, the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference, Intellectual Property Commissioners of the European Economic Community and other legal organizations.

Service Outside the Office

In addition to his professional endeavors, John has contributed many hours in support of the Mental Health Association of San Francisco.

Brother Cooper will receive his Significant Sig award at Grand Chapter in San Diego on June 27 and be recognized by his pledge class at Delta Delta in October.
