In recognition of his remarkable career in medicine as a clinical researcher specializing in the treatment of testicular, bladder, colon and pancreatic cancers as well as thymic carcinoma, which attacks the thymus gland.

In tribute to his work directing Indiana University’s Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center, and is the H.H. Gregg  Professor of Oncology.  As well as being the associate dean for cancer research at Indiana University School of Medicine.

In commendation of his research of the drug ifosfamide leading to it receiving FDA approval in 1988.  He is also the cofounder of the Hoosier Oncology group in 1985 and was its chairman for two decades.
