Blue Formal Highlight of Social Calendar
This year’s traditional Blue Formal dance took place on December 6th. Held continuously since the 1920’s (other than a three year break during World War II and another three year stint from 2020 – 2022 due to Covid-19) Blue Formal remains the most talked about formal dance on campus. Blue Formal chairmen Richard Obert, Skee Mishler and Jude Carsten made the arrangements for this year’s dance. The Sigs continue to decorate the Great Hall, Dining Room and front entrance in the same manner as it has been for the past 50 years.

Pre Blue Formal Activities

Chapter Sweetheart Margaret Boysen with Emerson Foote ’27.
Before Blue Formal many of the brothers took their dates to dinner at various restaurants around town. One large group of Sigs went to Nine Irish Brothers. Around 9:45, just before the dance officially started, many of the Sigs returned to the house to take photos with the White Cross entrance serving as the backdrop for photos with their dates.
Sweetheart Named
At the stroke of midnight, the brothers recognized Margaret Boysen (Emerson Foote’s ’27 date) as chapter Sweetheart. The announcement of the Sweetheart was followed by the singing of the “Sweetheart of Sigma Chi” to all their dates as well as presenting them with a single white rose.
The Blue Formal chairmen would like to thank the group of alumni brothers who contributed funds to help offset the expense of the dance. Their support ensured that this wonderful tradition remains the highlight of their social calendar.
