Longtime Friend of Delta Delta Shares Wisdom
Former Grand Consul Dick Hester has been engaging with the Sigs at Purdue since he graduated from Ball State in 1977. Dick has taken an active role in many Delta Delta events over the years from rush and social functions to major celebrations. Most recently he returned to Delta Delta to hold a fireside chat with the brothers at the request of Consul Preston Bunch. Preston remarked to Dick, “Many of our brothers enjoyed your talk at the chapter earlier this month, and we would love to have you return as the speaker for our first fireside chat of the semester on March 11th.”

Lifelong Devotion to Sigma Chi
Brother Hester’s lifelong devotion to Sigma Chi has been evident over the years as he has served the international organization in multiple roles including 59th Grand Consul, Grand Praetor, Indiana Province; Chairman, Preparation for Brotherhood and Continuing Education Task Forces; Leadership Training Workshop Faculty (26 years); Chapter Advisor, Rho Chapter at Butler University; Horizons Leadership Program Oversight Committee; and numerous other committees and boards. Dick has been recognized as a Significant Sig and is a member of the Order of Constantine.
Passion and Wisdom
Dick’s passion for bringing our Sigma Chi ritual to life for every brother leaves a strong impression on those brothers who hear Dick speak. At the Delta Delta fireside chat Dick spoke about the Black Supper and Charge and the significance each plays in our personal endeavors. Dick also spoke of the role Sigma Chi has played in his personal and professional life, as well as the learning experiences Sigma Chi offers to every brother. He highlighted the impact the connections made through Sigma Chi and other community activities have led to future opportunities and friendships.

Following the fireside chat, Dick commented, “I so appreciated the opportunity to meet with the brothers…and was surprised so many undergraduates wanted to talk afterwards! The chapter really seems to be doing well.”

It is important to recognize how important Sigs, like Dick Hester and our own alumni, impact our undergraduate brothers. Delta Delta is extremely grateful for Brother Hester’s many years of involvement with our chapter. His continued commitment to our brotherhood has left a lasting impression on generations of Sigma Chis.
