For an outstanding record as the first player to win a full captaincy of the Michigan football team, as an all-American half back and captain of the 1947 College All-Stars, and as a most valuable player in the Western Conference. For a commendable 18 year coaching career and for guiding the 1964 Michigan eleven to the Big Ten title and convincing Rose Bowl victory.
