Norman Bafunno ’83 has been honored for the success he has achieved in his professional career with Toyota, as both a Plant President and Corporate Senior Executive, while also serving in various community roles at the local, state and national level. Common to both has been Norm’s exceptional “people first” attitude, energy and enthusiasm, sincere desire to help others, and natural ability to bring people together.

Norm is currently Senior Manufacturing Executive with Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) in Plano, TX, where he oversees all TMNA Powertrain Manufacturing plants, and also serves as an advisor on the company’s manufacturing transformation strategy.  In 2018 Norm was promoted to Senior VP, Unit Manufacturing and Engineering, where he oversaw all of TNMA Powertrain Manufacturing plants as well as the company’s Safety, Environmental, Facilities, and Internal Plant Logistics teams. In this role Norm led Toyota North America’s expansion into an electrified future through his responsibility for Toyota’s first battery cell manufacturing plant located in Liberty, NC. Norm was quoted in Yahoo Finance August 31, 2022: “This marks another significant milestone for our company. This plant will serve a central role in Toyota’s leadership toward a fully electrified future and will help us meet our goal of carbon neutrality in our vehicles and global operations by 2035”.
