A Profound Weekend

Tim Maloney ’74 Memorial Plaque
Curt Carlson ’74 remarked, “Our weekend back at Purdue was profound. The Class of ‘74 celebrated our 50th reunion and dedicated the stone bench in honor of Tim Maloney ‘74. Nineteen of us gathered from as far away as Hawaii, California, New Hampshire, and Florida because Tim meant so much to us and to the House.”
Carlson added, “The experience of being a member of this fraternity at this university was a privilege that affected our lives, and we are forever grateful. Our time at 202 Littleton shaped us to be good and kind people. Everyone of us felt our lives were enhanced by our experience at Delta Delta and being able to call Tim a friend.”
At the White Rose ceremony Tim was remembered as “A man of high character, friend and brother to all, with uncommon courage, this bench is set on these grounds to honor the life of Brother Tim Maloney; to acknowledge the contributions he made to the Brothers and this Chapter House of Sigma Chi Fraternity; and to inspire those who pass through this house to build their lives in the same core values of Character, Courage and Friendship.”
Harold Force ’73, who worked closely with Tim during the renovation of the chapter house, noted, “It is fair to say that he “carried the ball” for a $7 million dollar construction project and never dropped it or waivered. And this was despite his wrestling with serious health issues for much of the same time. He never complained; was always the first one to ask, with sincerity, “How are you?”, and his big smile, hearty laugh, and strong “grip” were ever present. Tim’s life reflected the values set forth in The Sigma Chi Creed and the Jordan Standard. We would all be lucky to do half as well.”
Curt Carlson concluded, “Our class would not have been able to accomplish this without the assistance of the House Corporation. We also wish to recognize Butch Brose ‘09 and Jay Milligan, who did the actual installation of the bench and plaque.”

Class Celebrates 50 Years of Brotherhood
Returning the weekend of October 4 – 6, the Sigs had a busy agenda which started at Harry’s Chocolate Shop Friday afternoon before the group headed out to dinner. Saturday morning the 19 brothers congregated at the Sig house to hold a White Rose Ceremony and dedicate the Tim Maloney Memorial bench. Afterword they visited the chapter house before taking a tour of Purdue’s athletic facilities arranged by Phil Haehl ’74. The Class of ’74 celebrated their 50th reunion with dinner at Bistro 501 in downtown Lafayette.
Elderly Men Seen Cruising Purdue Campus
An anonymous report was filed over the weekend stating that the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office began receiving calls about elderly men cruising through the Purdue campus, often stopping at bookstores to make unusual requests. “Their modus operandi appeared to be one of gathering then dispersing, gathering then dispersing,” said Sherriff Rod Roler ‘73. “What made it even more difficult for us to follow them was that they themselves didn’t seem to know where they were supposed to gather next or at what time.”
Authorities asked anyone who encountered the Grey Hairs over the weekend to call Sherriff Roler’s office. His deputies will be canvassing local businesses to see whether any of them met customers going by Gerber, Turf, Gusto, Xeno, Flea, Marsh, or Pops.

It is very nice to see you all together after these many years. Your remembrance of Tim Maloney was very well done.
I’m very proud to have rushed under your “tutelage” 😊
Harold Force 1973
The Tim Maloney memorial bench is an appropriate tribute to Brother Maloney and a fitting addition to 202 Littleton. The Class of 1974 has exhibited exemplary brotherhood and unity. The group picture of the class is impressive, for sure.
The Class of 1973 is humbly proud of our role in helping to shape them into the Brothers which they have ultimately become.
In hoc always,
Harold
